3 Ways Jamaican Students Can Make Money Online

Published on

The world is becoming more digitized, even more so due to COVID-19. As such, many jobs and industries are changing the way they operate. Some are moving toward an entirely remote form of operation, and others are choosing a more hybrid approach, which is to work both from home and the office.

Today, almost anyone, including students, can find numerous jobs that they can do online, whether full-time or part-time. You may be wondering how because you think you are not skilled or qualified enough. However, whatever existing knowledge or skills you have can be used to work online. Also, if you want to top up what you already have or get a new skill, there are many sites that offer free courses. In this post, I will share with you three genuine ways that students can earn money online.

Freelance Writing

Freelance writing is one of the best and most common ways to earn money online. It is perfect for students who like to write and can research varying topics. You need to have a relatively good command of the English language. So that means your grammar, writing, and research skills need to be on point.

Writing jobs usually pay by word count. But there are those that pay hourly or by the project. In most cases, you need to do a simple English proficiency test. You will also need a computer and internet connection. Typical writing jobs involve writing articles, blog posts, and copies for websites. When offering writing services, it’s best to stick to topics you are knowledgeable about, for example, football, book reviews, general knowledge, braiding, beauty tips or trends, IT, math, cooking, etc.

Here are the websites that I recommend to get started on as a freelance writer:

  1. Upwork https://www.upwork.com/signup/
  2. Fiverr https://www.fiverr.com/
  3. PeoplePerHour https://www.peopleperhour.com/

Online Tutoring

That’s right; you can help other students from around the world get better at academic or non-academic subjects that you are knowledgeable about. You can use the Fiverr and Upwork platforms to offer this service. Also, there are several other platforms that will hire students to teach other students; ensure you research the platform before signing up. For online tutoring, most of these platforms require you to have a skype account and a good internet connection. In this case, I recommend you use the ethernet cable. Tutoring pays by the hour.

Data Entry

Data entry is another ideal area for students to dive into. It offers simple tasks that anyone who knows how to use a computer can do. Data entry jobs typically pay by the hour or by the task and involve typing up data fast and accurately. They don’t usually take much time and are perfect for making money part-time. For legitimate data entry jobs, check out Fiverr, PeoplePerHour, and Upwork.

Making money online is one massive way for students to reduce their financial burden while in college. Ensure you choose jobs that you like and are good at, and it will take dedication, as any worthwhile venture does. While this will help you make a bit of extra money, it is essential that you complete your higher education, particularly because of the potential to earn more and more importantly, it’s always best to have a career.
